Careers In Construction Month

Reach Your Dream Career.

Careers in Construction Month is a national initiative by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) to increase public awareness and appreciation of construction craft professionals and the entire construction workforce.

During the month of October, employers, associations, and schools across the nation conduct job fairs, panel discussions, and local community events to inform students of the vast employment opportunities in construction.

Since 2016, the CWDA has been developing programs to celebrate Careers in Construction month and has received state proclamations each year from the Governor of Michigan. Careers in Construction month activities have included:

  • Teachers In Industry Day: This day-long event is a professional development opportunity for educators to learn more about local employers and community organizations through on-site visits and presentations.
  • A month-long social media campaign utilizing video of construction professionals stating why they love their construction career.
  • Bringing tradespeople into classrooms across the region to teach lessons on tape measure reading, how algebra is used in fire protection, and how communication and collaboration are used in project management.
